MIRI, Nov 12: Miri is reaching a new milestone following Miri City Council (MCC) signing a memorandum of Establishing Friendly Relations and Co-operation with Weihai City, China.

MCC mayor Adam Yii said the signing of the Memorandum between the two cities was a break-through arising from several cordial approaches and fruitful dialogue between the Weihai Municipal People’s Government, Weihai’s Foreign Affairs Office and Miri City Council held on July 25, 2021.

“In my opinion, the signing of the Memorandum is the establishment of a common platform for both cities in carrying out activities and programmes which will bring mutual benefits to Miri City and Weihai City in the fields of economy, trade, science, technology, education, tourism, culture, sports, public health and etc.

“With great enthusiasm as shown by both cities and eventual active participation on activities carried out, I have great confidence that our friendly relations and co-operation will flourish and bring benefits to both cities.

“In fact, there are many potentials and opportunities waiting for us to explore and embark on,” said Yii during the signing ceremony.

He said MCC has been working towards the ends of providing Miri a healthy, safe living environment and making it a smart city with sustainable development.

Miri, he said, has also been assigned to set up a task force of planning and formulation strategies in carrying out Sarawak self-government supported programme of Sarawak-Malaysia My Second Home (S-MM2H) programme.

“This is definitely a great opportunity and potential for Miri City in its effort of promoting the tourism industry and virtually the local economy,” said Yii. — DayakDaily
