SIBU, June 25: A 23-year-old man has been arrested while his accomplice is still at large for allegedly stealing a box of children’s story books worth RM1,000 yesterday.

Sibu district police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the 61-year-old owner of a house at Jalan Kampung Nangka was sleeping when he was awakened by a loud noise at about 12.48am.

“He quickly switched on the car porch light and, at the same time, woke up his son,” he said.

When the complainant opened the door, the father and son saw a man sped off on a bike while another one had just entered the house compound.

Seeing them, the suspect tried to zoom off on his bike.

“The son gave chase and managed to pull the suspect down from his bike,” said Stanley.

The suspect fell down from his bike and ran off leaving his motorcycle behind. He had however also dropped his wallet which contained among other things his identity card.

Following a report lodged by the complainant, the police managed to track down and arrest the suspect.

The police are now hunting for the other suspect, 23, who has previous records for violent crime.

The case is being investigated under Section 37 of the Penal Code for housebreaking and theft. — DayakDaily
