Man jailed 5 months for assaulting mother after domestic dispute with wife

KUCHING, March 19: An unemployed man was sentenced to five months in prison by the Magistrate’s Court here today after pleading guilty to punching his mother after she advised him not to quarrel with his wife.

Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan ordered the jail term for the accused, Muhammad Arman Bohari, 23, to take effect immediately.


The accused was charged with intentionally causing harm to his 46-year-old biological mother on March 14, 2024, around 6.30pm at a house in Kampung Pulo Ulu, Petra Jaya here.

The charge was made under Section 323 of the Penal Code read together with Section 326A of the same code, which carries a penalty of imprisonment for up to one year or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.

Case facts revealed that the accused became angry when the victim advised him not to quarrel with his wife.

The accused punched the victim using his hands, causing injuries to the right side of her face. The accused also threw a vegetable knife towards the victim, but she managed to dodge it.

Subsequently, the victim lodged a police report, leading to the arrest of the accused on March 15, 2024.

Prosecution was conducted by Inspector Ammarsoffi Yusoff, while the accused was not represented by legal counsel. — DayakDaily
