Man in Kuching fined RM1,000 for assaulting girlfriend

KUCHING, Nov 11: The Sessions Court here fined a technician RM1,000 for assaulting his girlfriend.

The 28-year-old accused pleaded guilty to the charge framed before Sessions Court Judge Maris Agan.

Judge Maris Agan convicted him as charged and sentenced him to a fine of RM1,000 in default of one month’s jail.

He was found voluntarily causing hurt to his 20-year-old girlfriend near a hostel at Jalan Song Thian Cheok at about 3.10am on Nov 7.

He was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to one year or a fine of up to RM2,000 or both upon conviction.

According to the brief facts of the case, the victim and her four friends were on their way back to their hostel from a nearby bistro when the accused started to scold the victim and her friends, who were drunk and asked them to go back to their hostel.

The victim was unsatisfied with the accused’s actions and started to get angry. The accused then started hitting the victim using a stick, punched the victim’s left eye, pushed her body, and threw the victim’s phone onto the road.

Prosecuting Officer Inspector Mohd Adzmei Ahmad prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented by counsel. — DayakDaily
