KUCHING, Nov 11: Stability will be pointless if Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) were to choose to support a ‘corrupt’ Federal government with incompetent leaders after the 15th General Election (GE15), says P195 Bandar Kuching incumbent Dr Kelvin Yii.

He said while GPS refuses to name the one national coalition party it will support until election night, Sarawakians would be casting their votes blindly, not knowing which Federal government they are actually voting for.

“That is why GPS’ call to only ‘win first then only we select aFederal government’ is dangerous and can be detrimental to Sarawak as the people of Sarawak themselves wouldn’t even know what kind of Federal government they are voting for.

“If GPS’ intention is merely about making out the numbers to form the government especially with Umno/ BN (Barisan Nasional) or PN (Perikatan Nasional), then the likely outcome is we may have a mere ‘stability of incompetency’, which in the end, the people will suffer,” he said.

While stability is one of the considerations for investment, Dr Yii held that competency, good governance and effective policies are more important.

“How will investors have confidence if the country is known to be run by kleptocrats and leaders that are inefficient to address issues faced by the country,” he said at a press conference at Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) headquarters here today.

Therefore, he explained, GPS’ narrative of ‘choosing merely stability’ is flawed as it cannot be beneficial to Sarawak if GPS’ final choice is a corrupted, racist, extreme and incompetent federal government.

“That is why what is good for Sarawak, is a government built on good governance, anti-corruption, competent leaders and a recognition of the multicultural and pluralistic society Malaysia is, which is fundamental to what PH is fighting for,” he added. — DayakDaily
