KUCHING, Nov 11: The Bidayuh associations in Mambong have been told to chart out development plans for their respective areas to meet the demands of the Greater Kuching Consolidated Development Agency (GKCDA).

In stressing this, Deputy Minister of Transport Datuk Dr Jerip Susil said the GKCDA announced by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in June this year will cover Bidayuh areas from Lundu to Serian, including Mambong constituency.

Dr Jerip said the GKCDA will help to develop Bidayuh areas, both in terms of agriculture and tourist attractions to generate income for the people, which is a reciprocal gesture of the State government.

“To all the Bidayuh associations besides looking after education, tradition and culture, and unity of the Bidayuh, it is also very important that the Bidayuh benefit from the GKCDA,” Dr Jerip, who is Mambong assemblyman, pointed out today during a meet-the-people programme.

The programme at Persatuan Biperoh Kuching (PBK) hall, Jalan Borneo Heights was also attended by Puncak Borneo candidate Datuk Willie Mongin.

According to Dr Jerip, RM1.5 billion has been allocated for the GKCDA.

In Mambong, the Bidayuh associations include PBK, Persatuan Bisitang, Persatuan Bra’ang, Persatuan Bianah and Persatuan Segu Bunuk Penrissen, among others.

Dr Jerip also said that unity among the Bidayuh should continue to prevail like the previous State Election, where all eight Bidayuh majority seats were won by GPS.

“During this election, unity among the Bidayuh should be translated again by giving support to GPS candidate (Datuk Willie Mongin),” he stressed. — DayakDaily
