Man holding meat cleaver walks into Sibu Jaya police station

Police believe the suspect was under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident.

SIBU, April 20: An unemployed man was arrested after entering the Sibu Jaya police station with a meat cleaver at about 5pm yesterday.

Sibu district police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit revealed that the 23-year old suspect appeared with a meat cleaver in hand, shocking the two police personnel manning the front desk.

One of the police personnel requested the suspect to throw away the knife onto the ground outside the station. The suspect was later taken into custody by a police team and the meat cleaver seized.

Stanley disclosed the suspect did not resist arrest and the police believe the suspect was then under the influence of drugs.

“Upon investigation, the suspect revealed that he was carrying the meat cleaver which was taken from his house as self-defence as he was worried that somebody would assault him,” Stanley revealed, adding the suspect had an injury on his right hand as he had earlier smashed his house window.

The case is being investigated under Section 7 (1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958. — DayakDaily
