Man holding gun-like object in viral video at Jln Keretapi arrested

KUCHING, June 20: A 22-year-old local man has been arrested in connection with a 9-second viral video on social media showing a male driver holding an object resembling a gun at the Jalan Keretapi intersection here.

According to Kuching District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, an initial interrogation revealed that the suspect had admitted his involvement in the incident, and further checks confirmed that the object held was a replica gun.

“The suspect has two prior criminal records. A preliminary urine test also returned positive for drugs. A remand order has been obtained for three days until June 23,” he said in a statement.

The case is being investigated under Section 36(1) of the Arms Act 1960, which carries a penalty of imprisonment not exceeding one year, or a fine not exceeding RM5,000, or both.

Meanwhile, under Section 506 of the Penal Code, the offence carries a penalty of imprisonment of up to seven years, or a fine, or both.
