KUCHING, June 22: The Magistrate’s Court here sentenced a man with a numerous criminal records to three months’ imprisonment for impersonating a police officer and demanding money from the victim, as well as confiscating the victim’s smartphone.
Salidan Mohamad, 40, pleaded guilty to the charge framed under Section 170 of the Penal Code for impersonating a police officer.
Section 170 carries a maximum jail term of two years or a fine upon conviction.
Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi convicted him as charged.
He was found to have impersonated a police officer near a car parked in front of an eatery near BDC at around 10pm on May 22.
According to the brief facts of the case, during the incident, the complainant was sitting inside the car when suddenly a few men approached him, including the accused.
The accused claimed to be a police officer and threatened to take the complainant to the police station. Additionally, the accused asked the complainant for money. However, the complainant stated that he did not have any money, so the accused took the complainant’s smartphone, MyKad, and ATM card.
The complainant then lodged a police report, and the accused was arrested on May 30.
Furthermore, the accused also pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court to a gang robbery charge under Section 395 of the Penal Code.
On June 7, the accused was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment and a RM6,000 fine, or in default, an additional four months’ imprisonment for voluntarily causing hurt to his wife.
He is currently serving the sentences at Puncak Borneo Prison. — DayakDaily
