KUCHING, July 18: A man was sentenced to eight years in prison and three strokes of the cane by the Sessions Court today after admitting to stabbing his uncle in the stomach during a confrontation at their family home in Kampung Matang.

Mohammad Raihan Mansor, 21, pleaded guilty before Judge Iris Awen Jon to a charge of causing grievous harm with a weapon, an offence under Section 326 of the Penal Code.

The court heard that the incident unfolded around 6.30pm on July 14, when a family quarrel escalated into violence. During the chaos, Raihan used a knife to stab his 39-year-old uncle, resulting in a deep abdominal wound.

Law enforcement was alerted after a report was lodged about a family altercation involving a stabbing. When officers arrived, they found the suspect still at the scene and recovered the weapon believed to have been used in the attack—a silver-bladed knife with a yellow handle.

Investigations revealed that Raihan had intervened in a heated dispute and, during the altercation, turned violent. It was also disclosed in court that the accused was under the influence of drugs at the time of the offence.

The victim sustained a severe penetrating wound to his abdomen, which led to complications involving his intestines. Medical reports confirmed that the injuries were severe and required immediate surgery, including repairs to the large and small intestines.

The prosecution further revealed that two family members witnessed the incident, Raihan’s younger sibling and an aunt, who provided statements supporting the events that took place.

In delivering the sentence, Judge Iris noted the seriousness of the injury and the danger posed by the accused’s actions, despite his young age and guilty plea.
