Man found dead while hunting for snails in Bau river

KUCHING, June 29: A 32-year-old local man was found dead after he was reported missing while hunting for river snails within the Sungai Kampung Skibang area in Bau on Saturday (June 28).

According to Suara Sarawak, Bau District Police Chief, DSP Dr Daram Ruer, said the victim was pronounced dead by paramedics from the Health Ministry after his body was found by members of the public lying face down in the river.

“The victim reportedly left his house at around 10am to look for snails, but by 7pm, he still had not returned.

“Those who realised he was missing went to the location and found the victim lying face down in the river at around 10.30pm,” he said in a statement.

The victim was then moved to the riverbank before a police report was made, and he was later brought to the Bau Hospital for further action. It was also noted that the victim had a history of seizures since childhood.

“Investigations found no criminal elements, and the case has been classified as sudden death (SDR),” he said. — DayakDaily
