SIBU, Sept 29: A house owner at Jalan Lilin was shocked to find a corpse in a longboat in a shed yesterday.
Sibu District deputy police chief Supt Collin Babat said at about 11.30am, the police received a call from the woman who told them of a man’s body in the longboat in a shed near the Sungai Seduan riverbank.
The distance from the woman’s house to the shed is about 30 metres.
“A police team rushed to the scene and found the badly decomposed body of the man with worms crawling around it,” Collin said.
The body of the man, 36, was clad in shorts and a black T-shirt.
Supt Collin said there were no injury marks on the body while the man’s personal belongings in a pouch were untouched.
“We believe that the man had died a week ago. We had called his employer’s phone number found in his medical card,” he said.
According to his employer, the deceased was a caretaker for his boat and that he had tuberculosis.
The police have sent the body to the hospital mortuary for further action.
“We are now tracing family members of the deceased,” Collin added. — DayakDaily
