KUCHING, July 15: A 38-year-old man was fined RM5,000, or six months’ imprisonment in default, by the Magistrate’s Court here after pleading guilty to sending a TikTok voice message threatening to kill a 33-year-old acquaintance over a dispute involving a change of name on a TikTok account.

He was charged under Section 507B of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum punishment of three years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.

Based on the prosecution’s facts, the complainant was having a meal at a local eatery when he received a voice message via TikTok from an account using the name “Joker Duda Iblis”.

The recording contained threats to kill the complainant and one of his friends.

Investigations revealed that the threat stemmed from a misunderstanding between the two men following a change to the name of the TikTok account.

Fearing for his safety, the complainant lodged a police report, leading to the arrest of the accused and the seizure of his mobile phone for investigation.

A forensic examination of the device confirmed that the TikTok account used to send the threatening voice message belonged to the accused.

The accused also admitted that he had intentionally sent the message to frighten and intimidate the complainant.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Fauzulutfi Suriani appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was unrepresented. — DayakDaily
