KUCHING, July 10: A man was sentenced to a RM5,000 fine or five months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here today after pleading guilty to assaulting his 64-year-old father while under the influence of alcohol.
Darwin Chin Kui Sen, 26, entered his guilty plea before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi upon being charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A of the same code.
Chin was accused of committing the offense against his father around 9.30pm on July 5, 2024, at their family home in Kampung Sekuduk, Batu 24, Jalan Kuching-Serian.
According to the facts of the case, Chin became enraged at home after his father admonished him for kicking a table. In his drunken state, Chin proceeded to strangle his father, punch him in the face and forehead, and stomp on his hands and body after he fell to the floor.
As a result of the assault, the victim sustained injuries to his nose and forehead, as well as chest injuries.
The father lodged a police report, and Chin was arrested the following day (July 6, 2024) around 1.30pm.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor ASP Rogayah Rosli, while the accused was not represented by a lawyer. — DayakDaily
