KUCHING, Aug 30: A local man was fined RM1,500 or in default three months in jail by the Magistrate’s Court here today, for a road rage incident which left a teenage boy injured after the accused hurled an iron rod at him.
Mohammad Shahbani, 21, pleaded guilty to the charge, which was read out by the prosecutor in front of Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi.
The charge against him was filed under Section 324 of the Penal Code, for intentionally causing injury to the 17-year-old victim using an iron rod. The incident occurred on July 30, at approximately 3.30am, at Jalan Kampung Siol Kandis.
If found guilty, the accused faced imprisonment of up to 10 years, a fine, caning, or any combination of these punishments.
According to the brief facts of the case, at around 3.30am, the male complainant was on his way home with his friend (the victim) when they were pursued by a Proton Saga car.
The accused was driving the car at high speed and approached the complainant’s motorcycle. A passengers in the car signaled the complainant to stop, but he refused to comply.
The complainant sped up his motorcycle towards Jalan Siol Kandis, but the victim fell from the motorcycle after being hit by the accused’s car. The accused then exited his vehicle and threw an iron rod towards the complainant and the victim.
Fearing for their safety, the complainant and the victim fled into a nearby forest to escape the two men.
As a result of the incident, the victim sustained pain in his right knee due to the impact of the iron rod.
The complainant reported the incident to the police for further action and investigation.
It is understood that prior to the incident, the complainant and the victim had been recklessly riding the motorcycle, swerving in a way that disrupted the accused’s vehicle on the road.
The prosecution of the case was led by Inspector Mohd Adzmei Ahmad, while the accused did not have legal representation. — DayakDaily
