Man fined RM100,000 for possessing illegal beer worth RM398

SIBU, Oct 21: A 44-year-old man has been fined RM100,000 in default of five months’ jail by the Magistrates Court here today for for possession of 78.40 litres of illegal beer of various brands.

Magistrate Punita Sivaraji also ordered the accused, Justino Salang of Rumah Salang, Sungai Ngemah to pay import duty of RM392 for the beer.

According to the brief facts of the case, at about 12.20pm on February 12, 2019, a team of officers from Royal Malaysia Customs Department, Sibu raided a grocery shop at Jalan Rantau Panjang where they were met by the accused.

Upon inspection of the shop, the enforcement team found an assortment of beer worth RM398 which the accused admitted belonged to him.

The accused failed to prove that he has paid import duty amounting to RM392, a requirement under Third Schedule (Part 2) Custom (Prohibition of Import) Order 2017. — DayakDaily
