SIBU, Feb 20: A man is feared drowned after falling from the Igan Bridge today.

According to a spokesman from the Sungai Merah Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), they received a distress call at around 5.15pm from a member of the public concerning a man dressed in a red shirt and black pants falling from the bridge.

“Two men from a longhouse (Rumah Frederick Emperan Tekakong) near the bridge were resting on the riverbank when they saw the victim falling from the bridge,” he said.

The duo also saw the victim drifting along Sungai Igan before disappearing into the water.

Firefighters rushed to the scene and conducted a surface search for the victim but failed to locate him.

The search and rescue (SAR) operation was called off at 6.30pm as it was getting dark and will resume tomorrow (Feb 21).

He added that the victim had left behind his motorcycle on the bridge. — DayakDaily
