KUCHING, Feb 20: The proposal for Sarawak to host the Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2024 was made by Federal Minister of Youth and Sports Hannah Yeoh, says Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

According to Abdul Karim, who is Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED) Sarawak, the matter has also been agreed upon by all the states in the country.

He said, however, the final decision would have to be made during a Cabinet meeting.

“I don’t think there should be any problem, but of course, she has to report to the Cabinet.

“That is the last ‘technical’ matter that needs to be passed by her ministry,” he told a press conference held at Baitulmakmur Building 2 in Petra Jaya today.

Asked when the final decision is expected, Abdul Karim said it would most likely be known by March.

Meanwhile, Abdul Karim said that he had informed his ministry, including Sarawak Sports Council (SSC), to prepare to meet with all regional sports associations to ensure everything was ready.

“As I said, if we are going to be the host, we will be the champion. Nothing less than that,” he said. — DayakDaily
