SIBU, Aug 20: A man is feared drowned after he fell into the river near Sibu Wharf here yesterday afternoon (Aug 19).
According to a report by Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), a witness at the scene informed that the victim, who was last seen wearing a black shirt and pants, was lifting items into an express boat before falling into the river.
A distress call was made at 12.26pm before a team from Central Sibu Fire Station (BBP) was deployed to the scene.
Bomba further said a search and rescue (SAR) operation was activated for the missing person through surface searching and grappling iron in a search area with a radius of 1km from the location of the incident.
The SAR was postponed at 5.17pm yesterday and continues today.
The operation is assisted by Sibu District Civil Defence Force (APM) and the Marine Police teams. — DayakDaily
