Man dies after falling from Batang Salak Bridge, rescue attempt unsuccessful

KUCHING, Feb 20: A 34-year-old man tragically lost his life after falling into the river from the Batang Salak bridge near Jalan FAC today.

Responding to an emergency call at 2.03pm, firefighters from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak Petra Jaya station discovered the victim unconscious on the riverbank by the time they arrived at the scene.

According to a report, one of the two witnesses, who were fishing on the bridge, bravely leaped into the river and swam out to rescue the victim.

He pulled the victim, who was already unconscious, to the shore.

Despite the witnesses’ efforts to rescue the victim, paramedics from the Ministry of Health, present at the scene, declared the victim deceased at 2.58pm.

Subsequently, the victim’s body was handed over to the police for further investigation. The operation concluded at 3.20pm. — DayakDaily
