Man detained over suspicious packages left at Senadin mosque

MIRI, Nov 18: Police detained a local man on Sunday (Nov 17) following the discovery of two suspicious packages resembling explosives at a mosque in the Senadin area.

Miri District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the packages were found at approximately 1pm, prompting immediate action by the authorities.

The Bomb Disposal Unit from the Miri District Police Headquarters (IPD Miri) was deployed to the scene to examine the items.

After a thorough inspection, police confirmed that the packages did not contain explosives.

Alexson added that the incident is being investigated under Section 298/506 of the Penal Code, which pertains to offenses related to causing religious disharmony and criminal intimidation.

The police have urged the public to refrain from speculating or sharing unverified information on social media, as such actions could lead to unnecessary alarm among the local community.
