Man detained for throwing firework into S’wak Stadium during football match, police call for witnesses

KUCHING, March 17: A 33-year-old local man was detained by the police for throwing what was believed to be a firework towards the stadium field of the Sarawak Stadium during a football match between Kuching City FC and Selangor FC.

Kuching district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah confirmed the incident in a statement, saying that the man was arrested around 10.50pm on March 16.

“During a security operation, an individual sitting in the spectator seating area was found to have thrown an object towards the stadium field, causing a loud sound similar to an explosion,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 6 of the Explosives Act 1957, which, if convicted, carries a seven-year prison sentence, a fine of RM10,000, or both.
