Man arrested in Bekenu housebreaking probe

MIRI, Sept 5: A 31-year-old man from Kampung Tiris Bekenu has been detained by the police to assist in their probe into a housebreaking case.

The man was arrested yesterday around 1.30pm by a team of Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID), acting on a report lodged on the incident.


The alleged housebreaking was reported to have occurred in Bekenu.

Police also seized live bullets, a chainsaw believed to be a stolen item and a disassembled shotgun from the suspect’s possession.

Police officers carrying the seized items including the disassembled shotgun and chainsaw.

Miri police chief ACP Lim Memg Seah, when contacted, confirmed the arrest.

“The man was detained inside a hut by the roadside in Kampung Tiris Bekenu,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for housebreaking and Section 8(a) of the Firearms Act 1960 for illegal possession of fire arms. — DayakDaily
