KUCHING, April 8: A 21-year-old local man has been arrested for his involvement in an armed gang robbery case that took place on March 30 at a 24-hour convenience store in Muara Tebas.
In a statement, acting Kuching district police chief Supt Merbin Lisa said that a report on the incident was received on April 6, which was filed by the complainant, who is a 47-year-old local man.
The report stated that on March 30 at around 8.30pm, a 27-year-old woman who is a shop assistant at the convenience store was approached by three male suspects armed with sharp weapons.
One of the suspects pointed the weapon at the victim and proceeded to take RM2,950 from the counter.
“Acting on information received, on April 7 at around 4pm, a police team from the Gita station arrested the 21-year-old suspect and seized a stolen motorcycle that was reported missing in the Kota Samarahan district, which the suspect had been using.
“The arrest took place in the Demak Laut area. During an interrogation, the suspect admitted to his involvement in the case, and further checks revealed that he had five criminal records. The suspect’s drug screening test came back positive,” he said.
He added that the suspect had been remanded for six days until April 14 to identify the suspect’s accomplices who were still at large and to identify the suspect’s involvement in other cases.
The case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of up to 20 years and may also include caning.
