KUCHING, May 18: A 23-year-old man is learning a lesson about thinking carefully before posting on social media after getting arrested by the police today over his post which has caused anger among netizens.
Padawan deputy police chief DSP Lim Jaw Shyong said the man was alleged to have uploaded a post on Facebook insulting and accusing the Dayaks of supporting violence.
“The complainant claimed that the post was related to the current Palestine-Israel issue and it contained seditious elements which can disrupt racial and religious unity in the State.
“Therefore, the complainant had lodged a police report around 2.45pm today out of fear for the safety of all Dayaks in the State,” he said in a statement.
The suspect was arrested at his residence in Taman Glory, Jalan Matang Petra Jaya.
“The police also confiscated a smartphone believed to have been used by the suspect to write and upload the Facebook post.
“He (suspect) admitted that he had written the post but did not expect his action would cause anger among the members of the public,” Lim added.
The case will be investigated under Section 4(1)(a) of the Sedition Act 1948, Section 505(c) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. — DayakDaily
