Man arrested for alleged assault on wife’s lover in Sibu

SIBU, April 17: A 26-year-old man has been apprehended for reportedly attacking his wife’s lover on Sunday, with a video of the assault circulating widely on social media.

Sibu District Police Chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili disclosed that the 24-year-old victim lodged a police report regarding the incident.

“On April 14, at approximately 10.29pm, we received a police report from a 24-year-old local man detailing an assault incident. He stated that around 5.00pm that day, while waiting for a bus at Jalan Pahlawan, he was accosted by three unidentified individuals who proceeded to assault him,” Zulkipli stated today.


The victim was subsequently taken by the suspect in a four-wheel-drive vehicle to a residence on Jalan Sentosa.

Responding to public information, police successfully arrested one of the local male suspects to aid in the investigation.

The suspect has been remanded for three days until April 18.

“Initial investigations revealed that the incident stemmed from the victim’s alleged involvement with the suspect’s wife. In a fit of anger, the suspect, along with three accomplices who are still at large, assaulted and threatened the victim against further involvement with the suspect’s wife,” Zulkipli explained.

He specified that the case is being probed under Section 506/323 of the Penal Code, which pertains to making criminal threats and causing injury.

Section 506 carries a penalty of up to two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.

Meanwhile, the offense under Section 323 entails a maximum jail term of one year, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both. — DayakDaily
