SIBU, March 23: A jobless man has been arrested for criminal intimidation of a woman.

Acting Sibu district police chief, Supt Dr Collin Babat said the incident happened at about 12.30pm in front of a bank at Jalan Mission yesterday.

He said the complainant, a 28-year-old woman, was inside her car with her six-year old son and a 15-month-old nephew waiting for her father who was doing some business inside the bank.

“A man suddenly showed up and tried to open the car door. The complainant wound down her window and asked the man what he wanted,” he said.

The suspect became aggressive and put his leg on the car bonnet to prevent the woman from driving away.

“Fearing for her safety and that of the two children, she called her father. When her father rushed out from the bank, he asked the suspect what he wanted,” he added.

The suspect told him that he wanted the younger child and tried to open the door again.

“He quickly called for help from the bank security guard. When the suspect saw the staff of the bank, he ran away,” said Collin.

However, he was caught by members of the police who subsequently handed the 31-year-old suspect over to the central police station.

Police have classified the case under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, which carries an imprisonment term of up to two years in jail, a fine or both. — DayakDaily
