Man and woman plead not guilty to planting 20 ganja plants

SIBU, Aug 3: A man and a woman claimed trial in the Sessions Court here to a charge of planting 20 cannabis plants.

The accused, Clement Wong Siew Lim, 35, and Wong Mee Hui,29, denied the charge before Judge Marutin Pagan.

They were charged under Section 6B (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for a term of life imprisonment and with whipping of not less than six strokes, if convicted.


According to the charge sheet, the offence was committed at about 8.15am on July 29, at an unnumbered house in Jalan Hock Chuong where they have the common intention in planting 20 cannabis plants.

Judge Marutin fixed September 12 for further mention of the case.

On July 29, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Datuk Mancha Ata had at a press conference said police seized 34 potted cannabis plants worth RM56,346 and arrested five people from a vegetable garden in Sungai Bidut.

The plants measured between 2 to 7 feet tall. Also seized was a four-wheel drive vehicle worth RM40,000.

The suspects were arrested by a team from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN) during a raid on the garden between 7.30am and 3.30pm on July 27.

Mancha said the suspects comprised a local man, two local women, and two foreigners who were a man and a woman. — DayakDaily
