KUCHING, Jan 2: Motorists will be able to renew their driver’s licence online beginning Feb 1 through the MyJPJ mobile application, according to Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

Loke emphasised that renewals for both driver’s licence and road tax will be conducted in phases, with the initial phase open only to Malaysians.

“To encourage the use of Digital Driving Licence (e-LMM), those who choose e-LMM to end their licences will enjoy a rebate of RM5,” he told a press conference today at the Selangor headquarters of the Road Transport Department (RTD) in Shah Alam, as reported by MalayMail.

The Transport Minister also said that the rebate will be available for the entire year, beginning February 1, 2024 and ending on December 31, 2024.

“Starting from today, the public can share their e-LMM or their digital road tax via the new function available in the MyJPJ app.

“Through this new function in the app, it will enable users to share their e-licences with either family or friends or other individuals that are allowed by the user,” he said.

Furthermore, the news outlet reported that the digitisation of the road tax was rolled out last February.

According to MalayMail, Malaysian private vehicle owners and drivers are no longer required to display physical copies of their road tax on their windscreens, but must instead show or screenshot their road tax data when asked by enforcers.

The MyJPJ app can also access a motorist’s driving licence. Users can share their online data with relevant parties and also set a timeframe on how long the information can be accessed by others.

Meanwhile, Loke stated that only 7.5 million people are currently using the digital platform, citing an RTD survey.

As a result, the RTD has issued a security slip in lieu of the physical road tax sticker and driver’s licence.

“However, this security slip is not compulsory as it is only an option for those who still need some time to get used to the digitised system.

“The government is hopeful that through the efforts of the Transport Ministry and RTD, we are able to work towards the full support for a digitised system for the public,” Loke was quoted as saying. — DayakDaily
