KUCHING, April 1: Malaysia is aiming towards a 100 per cent digitally intelligent civil servants and 80 per cent of online government services by 2025.

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said this during his meeting with Sarawak civil servants at Ranyai Ballroom, Waterfront Hotel here today.

To achieve this goal, he said the federal government has since February, 2021 introduced the MyDigital plan and the Malaysian Digital Economy Blueprint to drive the digital transformation in both the economic and public sectors.

To top the game, he added that the councils of National Digital Economy and Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) were also established about the same time, to set, implement and monitor certain digital economy policies and 4IR strategies in Malaysia, especially in Sarawak.

“If in the past, daily affairs and meetings could only be conducted face to face, now most of them can be conducted online.

“So, we also need to adapt to the new norms so that we are more sensitive to the pulse of the people,” he said while pointing out the importance of the public service sector as a catalyst or enabler in driving reforms, specifically in digitalisation.

Adding on, Muhyiddin said any existing regulations, mainly at the Local Authority (PBT) level, that are found to be no longer effective in delivering to the people must be reviewed, amended and improved.

Emphasising that this is one of the aspects he has been continuously stressing to the Cabinet at the federal level, he urged for the simplification and effectiveness of applications for the people, especially from rural areas.

“Simplify the process of applying for assistance to the people, and so are the applications from traders, entrepreneurs and investors.

“Each application should be considered as soon as possible and as best as possible,” he said.

Today is the first day of Muhyiddin’s two-day working visit to Sarawak. He arrived at Kuching International Airport (KIA) at about 9.37am together with his wife Puan Sri Noorainee Abdul Rahman before heading straight to Waterfront Hotel.

Following this, he is scheduled to visit the vaccination centre at Stadium Perpaduan, Petra Jaya, pay a courtesy call to Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, and hold a townhall session on “Shared Prosperity Vision 2030” at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching.

Accompanying him in the visit are Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan. — DayakDaily
