KUCHING, Nov 24: China, one of Malaysia’s largest and most important tourism markets, is set to play a pivotal role in bringing the vision of a successful Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VM2026) campaign to life.
Malaysia’s Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Dato Seri Tiong King Sing, said the country is actively preparing for the Campaign, a key opportunity to showcase its unique charms to the world.
“As one of Malaysia’s largest tourism markets, China will play an indispensable role in this initiative.
“Malaysia sincerely hopes for China’s continuous strong support and deep, unwavering collaboration to help realise the vision of a successful Visit Malaysia Year,” he said in a statement yesterday (Nov 23).
Tiong has recently led a delegation comprising 18 tourism trade entities, including seven travel agencies, four hotels and resorts, three tourism product operators, Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) representatives, tourism associations, and airline representatives to participate in the 2024 China International Travel Mart (CITM) in Shanghai on Nov 22.
During the event, Tiong highlighted that this year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China, celebrating decades of mutual respect, collaboration, and friendship.
He added that the introduction of mutual visa-free entry measures and strengthened tourism collaboration have further enhanced travel, boosting interactions and exchanges between the two nations.
“China remains among Malaysia’s most important international tourist markets this year.
“Malaysia is committed to providing global travellers, including those from China, with a welcoming destination by adopting innovative measures such as preserving tropical rainforests, enhancing indigenous cultural experiences, optimising entry procedures, improving tourism service quality, and promoting eco-friendly hotels,” he elaborated.
He acknowledged past incidents where tourists had unpleasant experiences in Malaysia and assured that the government, under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s guidance, is taking steps to strengthen tourism safety measures.
Apologising to Chinese tourists for any shortcomings, he promised to enhance tourism services, improve visitor experiences, and prioritise safety to ensure a secure and enjoyable travel environment for all. — DayakDaily
