Malaysia Airports Holdings to call tender this June to revamp Kuching Int’l Airport toilets

KUCHING, May 13: Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) will call a tender this June to renovate all toilets at the Kuching International Airport (KIA), says Transport Minister Lee Kim Shin.

He said the Sarawak government is also proposing to upgrade KIA and Miri Airport, which are identified as having exceeded their passenger handling capacities.

“Based on my last meeting with the YB Minister of Transport Malaysia, these optimisation plans will be the priority projects in obtaining allocations from the federal government.

“The proposed optimisation plan for KIA amounts to RM65 million and RM60 million for Miri Airport, to be implemented under Rolling Plan 5 (2025),” said Lee in his ministerial winding-up speech in the august House here today.

For Miri Airport, he said, the proposed upgrade involves an increase in terminal capacity from 2 million passengers per annum (MPPA) to 3 MPPA.

The proposed scope of expansion works also includes a new building extension and upgrading of the Rural Air Services (RAS) area; additional new check-in counters; new offices area, signages and wayfinding; new baggage handling system; improvement and upgrading works at the first-floor departure hall area; pier expansion and additional two passenger boarding bridges; and automation toward airport 4.0. — DayakDaily
