KUCHING, Aug 10: An 800mm main water pipe near Aiman Mall in Kota Samarahan has sprung a leak due to construction works for the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project, disrupting water supply and causing low water pressure in several areas.
In a statement, Sarawak Water said the incident has affected consumers along Jalan Datuk Mohammad Musa, Taman Desa Ilmu, and the surrounding areas.
The leak has also affected the distribution of treated water from Sarawak Water to the Samarahan area of the Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB), resulting in water supply disruptions in Tambirat, Asajaya, Sadong Jaya, Sebangan, Sebuyau, and Simunjan.
Sarawak Water said its technical team has been deployed to the site to carry out repair works as quickly as possible. At the same time, water tankers have also been sent to areas requiring temporary water supplies.
“The utility is working closely with JBALB, KUTS, and relevant agencies to ensure the repairs are carried out safely and completed as soon as possible.
“Water supply will be restored gradually once repairs are completed and the pressure and distribution system stabilise,” it said.
The utility provider said recovery times may vary by location, particularly in elevated areas and at the far ends of the distribution network. — DayakDaily
