KUCHING, Aug 10: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg says the current haze situation in Sarawak is not particularly severe and is expected to be temporary.
He said the State was affected by the haze amid the El Niño phenomenon but urged people to remain vigilant.
“Of course now we are affected because of El Niño. So, we have to be vigilant.
“As for the haze, I think this time it is not very bad, I feel. And this is only temporary,” he told reporters after the groundbreaking ceremony for Regency Specialist Hospital Kuching at the Northbank project site here today.
Asked about preventive measures being taken to address the haze, Abang Johari deferred the matter to Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas who is the chairman of the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).
“Haze, I leave that to Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah. When you meet him, you ask him,” he said.
Abang Johari’s remarks come as haze conditions have affected parts of Sarawak, with the State continuing to monitor the situation amid concerns over deteriorating air quality.
He did not elaborate further on the measures being taken, saying the matter fell under Uggah’s purview. — DayakDaily
