KUCHING, May 18: Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) has allocated RM2.9 million to upgrade the baggage handling system and aerobridge at Kuching International Airport (KIA) from 2023 to 2025.
Deputy Minister of Transport Sarawak Datuk Dr Jerip Susil said since 2022, MAHD has spent RM2.5 million to improve facilities at the airport.
“This includes the upgrading of toilets, signage and re-paving runways,” he said during the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here today.
Dr Jerip was replying to a question from Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh regarding government’s plans to upgrade KIA.
The next phase of KIA’s expansion involves acquisition of land by the Ministry of Transport (MOT) and MAHB because the existing area is inadequate, he added.
“The proposed scope of development under KIA master plan includes constructing additional buildings, adding check-in counters, government agency and airline offices, signage, baggage handling systems, improvement of the departure hall, aerobridge and automation of airport towards 4.0,” he said. — DayakDaily
