SERIAN, June 12: Mackos Sibong is the new Serian Resident, taking over the position from Caroline Cleophas Joseph in a handover of duties ceremony held at the Serian Division Sarawak Government Administrative Centre today.
In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) report, Mackos pledged to continue the development momentum established by Caroline, with a focus on the physical, social, and economic development of communities in Serian Division.
He said close cooperation between government agencies, community leaders, and the public is crucial to ensuring efficient service delivery and the effective implementation of development agendas.
Mackos, who has more than two decades of experience in the Sarawak administrative service, has previously served as a sub-district administrative officer, District Officer, Deputy Resident, and with the Sarawak Economic Planning Unit.
His experience serving in rural and interior areas such as Kapit, Marudi, Baram, and Long Lama has also given him a deep understanding of the needs of the people and the challenges of rural development.
He also called on department heads, civil servants, and community leaders to continue working together to realise Sarawak’s development aspirations, including the digital economy, green economy, and talent development agendas.
Meanwhile, in her farewell speech, Caroline expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve in the Serian Division for the past four years, describing the period as a highly meaningful experience.
She will begin her new role at the Ministry of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development (MEITD), adding that transfers are a normal part of public service and provide opportunities to continue contributing in different capacities.
Among those present during the ceremony were Sarawak Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodity, and Regional Development and Kedup assemblyman Datuk Martin Ben; Serian MP Dato Sri Dr Richard Riot Jaem; Tebedu assemblyman Dr Simon Sinang Bada; Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Ilus; Serian Deputy Resident Abdul Khalid Manap; and Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) Special Administrative Officer Datuk Ik Pahon Joyik. — DayakDaily
