BETONG, Aug 15: A machete believed to belong to a 79-year-old woman who went missing after heading to her farm has been found, giving rescue teams their first tangible clue in the ongoing search for her in Ulu Layar here.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), they received a call at 11.12am on Friday (Aug 14), and firefighters from the Betong station were deployed.

Based on the report, the victim, Nawie Jabing, was said to have left her longhouse, Rumah Empaling Jelang Spak, at 6.30am on Thursday (Aug 13), to go to her farm and did not return.

The first day of the search and rescue (SAR) operation on Aug 14 covered a radius of up to 500 metres in the victim’s farm area, where they found her machete at 12.10pm.

However, they found no new clues about her whereabouts before suspending the operation at 5pm.
