KOTA KINABALU, Sept 12: The delegation of authority to the Sarawak education director for the appointment of District Education officers, principals, and headmasters to fill vacancies and acting positions has been finalised.

However, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof stated that the delegation of similar powers to the Sabah education director is still under discussion.

“For Sabah, negotiations are ongoing, and there are still several matters remain to be resolved.

“However, certain administrative powers regarding appointments will be further clarified to ensure proper delegation to the education directors of Sarawak and Sabah,” he explained in a TVS news report.

He made these remarks during a press conference following the first Malaysia Agreement 1963 Implementation Action Council (MTPMA63) meeting of 2024, chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) today.

Fadillah added that the issue concerning the delegation of authority to Sabah will be discussed again in future meetings.

“Further details will be ironed out, but any agreed-upon appointments must involve consultations between the Ministry of Education and both Sabah and Sarawak before any decisions are made,” he emphasised.
