KUCHING, July 19: Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof has announced that the federal government has agreed to return 55 lots of land which were acquired from the Sarawak and Sabah governments, in accordance with Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
According to a Bernama news report, Fadillah disclosed the return involved 52 lots of land owned by Sarawak and three owned by Sabah.
He explained that the federal government had acquired many land lots in Sarawak and Sabah but had not developed them, and that with the return of the land, the two States will be able to develop said land.
“These land lots are no longer used by the federal government. For safety, health (reasons) and so on, they need to be handed back to the State governments (Sarawak and Sabah),” he said, as quoted by the national news agency.
Fadillah, who is also the Minister of Plantation and Commodities, chaired the MA63 Technical Committee meeting in Putrajaya yesterday (July 18).
He also disclosed that the two State governments would reimburse the federal government for the compensation paid when the land was taken over.
Fadillah, who is also Petra Jaya MP, highlighted that Sarawak had requested the return of 219 lots of land, while Sabah had requested five.
He noted that the land lots had been identified as undeveloped for five years, but he did not specify the total area of the land lots. — DayakDaily
