KUCHING, Oct 8: The line-up for the Special Cabinet Committee to look into issues pertaining to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) will be tabled at the federal cabinet meeting for approval this week.
The committee was formed following an instruction from Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad recently.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law) Datuk Liew Vui Keong confirmed this after visiting the Kuching Court Complex today.
Among some of the issues that would be deliberated by the committee include Article 1(2) of the Federal Constitution, whereby an amendment to the article in 1976 had ‘downgraded’ Sabah and Sarawak from being equal partners of the Federation of Malaysia to being on the same level with other states.
“We don’t really have go into the historical part, as there are a lot of common issues that have been agreed upon by us. Instead, we will look straight into the implementation of the MA63,” Liew said.
Although he did not reveal who would be among the top officials sitting in the committee, it is rumoured that Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal would be among them. — DayakDaily
