KUCHING, June 11: Lundu will “be like Dubai” once the two international hotels similar to Palm Jumeirah are completed in Sematan, said Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Abang Johari said private entities have agreed to invest a total of RM120 million to establish two hotels in Lundu, specifically in Sematan.
“The total investment, (which is) already confirmed, is RM120 million. There are two (hotels). The design, I saw it. It looked like the Palm (Island) in Dubai.
“They say they want to build one in Sematan too. Then, in the future, we (Lundu) will be like Dubai,” he said.
Proudly announcing the proposed hotel project, Abang Johari said the only thing lacking in Lundu is hotel accommodations to attract foreign tourists.
He said Lundu is equipped with sufficient tourism attractions namely Mount Pueh, Gunung Gading National Park, and Talang Island, except for international hotels.
“We need international hotels here (in Lundu). It will not only create job opportunities, but also act as one of the tourism pull factors,” he said when launching the Sematan pier and waterfront in Sematan today.
The construction of the Sematan pier, which cost RM5 million, began on Aug 19, 2020 while the RM600,000 waterfront project started on Nov 16, 2020.
Among those also present were the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) Dato Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia, and Tanjung Datu assemblyman Azizul Annuar Adenan. — DayakDaily
