MIRI, March 22: Sarawak Bumiputera Teachers Union (KGBS) today lauded Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik for his decision to have lounges in schools for teachers to rest in between classes.

KGBS president Ahmad Malie hoped the move would become a reality.

“Nowadays, we (teachers) only have teacher’s rooms, which are less conducive to relax … what with workloads and the surrounding filled with books,” he said.

In addition, the crowded space in the staff room makes it less conducive for relaxation.

“KGBS has high confidence that the plan can become a reality in the near future,” he said.

Ahmad said Maszlee’s decision was in line with what foreign schools were doing.

For example, during a recent visit to Finland with state Minister of Education, Science and Technological Research Dato Sri Michael Manyin Jawong, they visited a school with a lounge for their teachers.

“The lounge is fully equipped with various facilities for teachers,” Ahmad narrated. — DayakDaily
