SIMANGGANG, July 15: A lorry carrying 20 200-litre drums filled with diesel with a potential value of RM47,480 has been seized in Lubok Antu town near here Monday (July 13).
According to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) Sarawak in a media statement today, its Sri Aman Branch enforcement team detained the truck at about 1pm.
The officers then searched the truck and found that it was carrying 20 units of 200-litre drums with diesel fuel.
Earlier investigation also found that the accused person did not have a license or special permit to handle the controlled goods which was the diesel.
This case was being investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961 read together with Regulation 3 (1) of the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974.
If convicted, the offender if is a body corporate can be fined an amount not exceeding RM3 million for each offense committed and a fine not exceeding RM1 million for each offense committed or imprisonment not exceeding a period of three years or both for a person not a corporate body.
KPDNHEP Sarawak emphasised that it will always monitor and conduct inspections from time to time to ensure no smuggling or abuse of controlled items.
