KANOWIT, Jan 23: Community leaders have been told to get longhouse chieftains ensure that their ‘anak biak’ follow the instruction from the Health Department concerning Covid-19 pandemic.

Kanowit district police chief DSP Tega Bilong today warned that the police would not hesitate to take stern action against those who defy orders from the Health Department.

Tega said this in response to an incident yesterday at Rumah Dim, Machan where a Covid-19 positive patient created a commotion by going against the order of the health department.

Several longhouse folk also joined him going against the officers.

Officers from the Health Department went to the longhouse to take the elderly man to the hospital for treatment. However he was believed to have vehemently refused and acted rough against them.

Police were called to the scene. It was only then that the patient gave up and agreed to go to the hospital.

“We were informed that about 42 residents of the longhouses were found positive for Covid-19. Some of them made a threat and provocation on health officers who came to bring them to the hospital..

Policemen who arrived at the scene had to give a very strong warning to those who acted differently,” he said.

Tega wanted residents of the longhouses to discipline themselves so that such incidents would not recur. ā€” DayakDaily
