MIRI, Oct 25: Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau asserts that the newly launched Long Latei’s ‘Reading Corner’ helps to promote reading habits among the rural children, especially the Penan.

“I strongly believed that the reading corner could help improve the literacy of rural children and promote reading habits,” he said.

Dennis disclosed this during the launching of the ‘Reading Corner’ at Long Latie Penan Service Centre in Baram on Saturday.

The ‘reading corner’ is the first of its kind being set up in Long Latei, and with the establishment, the local community and its surrounding areas can now have an access to reading materials.

He thanked the Pustaka Negeri Sarawak Miri branch for their initiative in setting up the facility and bringing books for the rural children in the area.

Dennis added that over the years, the State government has been promoting initiatives to improve literacy to the community especially those in the rural areas.

“I’m confident that the new facility will evoke a positive response,” he said.

Also present during the launching was Pustaka Negeri Sarawak’s board member Datu William Patrick Nyigor. —DayakDaily
