KUCHING, Oct 17: A local woman was sentenced to four months in prison by the Magistrate’s Court here today for stealing electronic devices and personal items belonging to her British boyfriend at a luxury hotel last month.
The accused, 33-year-old Nurfazella Sulaiman from Kampung Bintawa Hilir, pleaded guilty to the charge read before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Alwi.
According to the charge, Nurfazella was accused of stealing an Apple iPad Pro, an iPad cover, an Apple Pencil, a Leica camera with lenses, as well as credit and bank cards belonging to a 64-year-old British man.
The theft occurred at a prominent hotel on Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg around 7.50pm on Sept 12.
The case facts reveal that on Sept 28 at approximately 6.30pm, a police team apprehended the accused at a residence in Kampung Bintawa Hilir following suspicions that she had stolen from the foreign tourist.
Investigations uncovered that Nurfazella had taken the items from the hotel room, as captured on the hotel’s CCTV footage.
The footage showed her making a phone call to the hotel front desk, leading to a series of events that facilitated the theft.
Before the theft, Nurfazella falsely claimed she had left her key in the room.
Using this excuse, hotel staff opened the room for her, allowing her to enter. She then took the items and exited via the staircase, heading to the lower-level parking area before leaving the hotel premises.
A security supervisor with access to the CCTV system witnessed the incident unfold.
However, by the time she was apprehended, the stolen items had already been sold to third parties.
The prosecution was led by ASP Arman Ibrahim, while Nurfazella was not represented by a lawyer. — DayakDaily
