KUCHING, Aug 12: Art pieces painted by seven artists with special needs are being showcased at the Lions Art Gallery exhibition in Aeon Mall here for two months until the end of September.
The exhibition was launched yesterday (Aug 11) by Lions Club in Kuching district governor Kapitan Connie Loh, Kuching Association of Talent Development and Welfare of Special Needs (KATSN) chairperson Lim May Yek and Divine Will Society chairman Anthony Bong.
In a joint media release today, the organisers said some of the artwork can also be purchased on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Encouraging the public to visit the Gallery located at the North Wing (in front of Dockers shop), the organisers said that the objective of the project is to support children with special needs to boost their self-esteem and self-respect so that they have confidence in their worth and abilities.
Apart from that, the art gallery also hopes to serve as a springboard for more art and painting enthusiasts and members of the public to come forward and support the art community in the city, which would in turn help to generate an income for these artists.
It also aims to help people with special needs integrate in the community so they can fully participate in life at the same level as normal people.
Lions Club of Kuching One Earth chairman Joseph Tang, Sarawak Artiste Society president David Chiew, Kuching North City Commission member Sih Hua Tong and Divine Will Society trustee Dato Sim Kiang Chiok were among those present at the ceremony. — DayakDaily
