KUCHING, March 28: The Sarawak government will waive the licence fee for hotels and lodging houses for this whole year from Jan 1 until Dec 31.

Miri City Council (MCC) mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang said this comes as part of the government’s eighth package of Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS 8.0) as an economic incentive to mitigate the effect of Covid-19 on the people.

“For those who have paid their licence fee, the amount paid will be credited for payment of the licence fees for the year 2023.

“The waiver will not include any outstanding licence fee,” he said in a statement today.

The State government has also extended the 50 per cent discount on rental at local authorities’ markets and stalls for hawkers and petty traders for the month of January to June this year.

“For those who have paid their rental in full, the amount paid will be credited for payment of the rental for the year 2023,” Yii added.

He also disclosed that the government has provided a complete waiver on licences, permits and Ramadan bazaars under the MCC’s jurisdiction for the corresponding period.

“All fees waived will be based on collection for the year 2022.

“Waiver is only given to current year 2022 market/stall/permits/licences and Ramadan bazaar stall permits. This is subject to permits/licences with expiration date until Dec 31, 2022,” he said.

Meanwhile, those who have already paid their permit or licence fees, the amount paid will be credited for payment of the permit or licence for the year 2023.

This waiver, however, will not include any outstanding permit/licence fees. — DayakDaily
