KUCHING, May 8: The search is still ongoing for the young woman who performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on a 55-year-old man known only as ‘Mr Law’ after he collapsed at the Kuching International Airport (KIA) on April 30.
Madam Ngu, a family member, confirmed today that despite public appeals, the Good Samaritan has yet to be identified.
However, the family remains hopeful that someone who knows her or witnessed the incident will come forward.
“We are still looking for the kind young woman who helped Mr Law that day.
“So far, no one has contacted us with new leads, but we truly hope she or someone who knows her will reach out,” Ngu said when contacted.
Mr Law, who suffered a suspected cardiac event shortly after arriving in Kuching from Sibu, was resuscitated on the spot by the unidentified woman who administered CPR for nearly 30 minutes before he was taken to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).
Following a series of medical procedures, including a coronary angioplasty at Timberland Medical Centre, he was stabilised and has since been discharged. He is currently recuperating at home in Sibu.
“He is doing well and resting at home. We are very grateful for all the support, and especially for the help given by that young woman,” Ngu added.
In a viral Facebook post last week, cardiologist Dr Tang Sie Hing, who escorted Mr Law to Timberland Medical Centre, praised the woman’s swift actions, noting that without her intervention, the outcome could have been fatal.
In a separate Facebook post, Dr Tang shared that the original story has since gone viral and even reached audiences as far as the United Kingdom, having been shared by journalist Alisha Rahaman Sarkar.
Tang noted that while the initial information came from Madam Ling, who was waiting to pick up Mr Law and provided an accurate account at the time, more details have since emerged.
“As the days have gone by, we have been informed of other remarkable human beings and a medical officer who helped the patient on that day. Thank you very much to all of you who assisted Mr Law at the airport,” Tang wrote.
“Not only did you save a precious life and make a family happy—you affirm to us that the world can be a better place because of people such as you.”
He reiterated that the family’s intention in making the post public was to locate and personally thank the woman whose swift action played a crucial role in saving Mr Law’s life.
