KUCHING, Nov 13: The Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA) has been urged to organise an exhibition to present the finalised blueprint for the Bukit Assek Redevelopment in Sibu, to the local community.

In making the call, Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng Jin Ek said the Bukit Assek Redevelopment masterplan is set for finalisation and will be revealed in the first quarter of 2025, and a 15-year implementation roadmap beginning in 2026.

“Hosting exhibitions at accessible venue with on-site agency officers will give residents a clear understanding of the project, its phases, and its long-term benefits.

“These sessions should enable an open dialogue, allowing the people of Sibu to voice concerns, ask questions, and see for themselves the thought and care behind each element of the redevelopment,” he said when debating in support of the Supply (2025) Bill, 2024 during the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting today.

He further said the redevelopment is more than a physical upgrade, as it is a catalyst for economic revitalisation.

With comprehensive flood mitigation measures, improved infrastructure, and a renewed cityscape, he said Sibu is set to become a regional hub for investment and business.

“The planned phases will bolster the local economy, notably boosting the construction and related industries, creating job opportunities for the people of Sibu.

“As we look forward to the release of the full blueprint, we anticipate that the comprehensive approach to development will include initiatives to attract both local and international investors, making Bukit Assek a nucleus of economic activity,” he added. — DayakDaily
